So few of us though, seemed to really care, As if the whole thing were one big scare.
But it is not merely a story to fill us with fright, An urban legend to make us ponder our poor plight.
She was a real 13 year-old girl, Taken as part of God’s plan, yet to unfurl.
She was a joy to behold, for those she knew, With so much innocence, surpassed by only a few.
A diamond jewel in this quarry of quartz, To protect her, they would have built forts.

Looking back I see all through which I’ve standed.
The grief that I’ve fought, the joy that I’ve found,
And through everything else I’ve managed to stay strong-minded.
Now with this all behind but so much ahead,
I feel that I’m left with cause to be afraid.
The feeling’s every night when I go to bed,
That I’ll become lost or my heart, mislaid.
The Love of Jesus remains my light shining,
And the salt of my life is truly my friends.
